SUMMARY
Esther is a Jewish girl who was selected by the Persian King Ahasuerus (Xerxes) to be his wife. He had banished his former wife Queen Vashti who had refused to dance in front of the king and his friends with only her crown on and chose Esther through a contest. (chapters 1-2)

Esthers uncle was Mordecai. Mordecai found out about a plot to kill the king and told Esther about it. Esther went to the king and told him about the plot and gave the credit of finding out to Mordecai. the two men who were involved in the plot were hung. (chapter 2)

One of the princes in the kingdom was Hamon. When Hamon was walking by the palace gates he ordered evevryone to bow to him but, Mordicai refused to bow to anyone but God. Hamon was very angry about this and made a plan to kill all the jews in the land or else they would over throw the kingdom. Niether Hamon or the king knew at the time that Queen Esther was a jew though. (chapter 3)

The law that would kill all the jews in the land was passed. When Mordecai found out about the law he told Esther to appraoch the king and ask him to reconsider. King Xerxes loved Queen Esther but she did not have to the authority to come into the kings chambers without being called for and could be killed for it. Mordecai assured Esther that Gods plan was for to become queen and protect His people. (chapter 4)

One day Esther grew the confidence to approach the king and she invited him and Hamon to have dinner with her. After the dinner she invited both of them a second time for dinner the next day. That day Hamon became even more angry with Mordecai and requested that a gallows be made in order to hang Mordecai in the morning. That night the king was unable to sleep so he had the recent events of the kingdom be read to him. He realized he never honored Mordecai for stoping the plot to kill the king and insisted that he thanks Mordecai in the morning. When Hamon came to the king to request the gallows be made the king asked Hamon his advice on how to honor a man. Hamon thinking the king was refering to him came up with the plan that the man should be shown around the city with the kings robe, crown, and horse. The king liked the idea and ordered Hamon to do everything he just explained for Mordecai because he saves his life. (chapter 5-6)

Hamon was disgusted that he had to honor Mordecai and was very angry. That night the king and Hamon went to Esthers banquet where the king demanded to know what Esthers request was and was willing to give up to half of his kingdom to her. Esther told the king that there was a plot to kill her and her people. The king became angry and asked who was behind this plot and Esther informed the king that it was Hamon. While the king stepped outside to think Hamon begged Esther to spare his life and laid in her bed in sadness. When the king came back he saw Hamon in the queens bed and thought that now he was trying to sexually seduce Esther and he became even more angry. The next day Hamon was hung on the gallows he had made for Mordecai. (chapter 7)

The king told Esther that the law could not be changed but he did allow to the jews to defend themselves. The jews won the battle and slaughtered the army trying to destroy them and the king had a great celebration. (chapters 8-10)
